The black sheep of the Jackie Chan filmography, City Hunter is a 1993 live action adaptation of an 80s maga/anime of the same name. Eight Legged Freaks brings two things to my mind. One, the idea of normal bugs giant sized killing dozens of people is so simple.. yet seems to entertain me very much. Two, I wish someone would do this with more convincing special effects, (blog post) because these bugs.. well.. in still images they're okay. I guess.. but in animation, if you don't nail the natural movement it just looks silly. Did I mention these talk like evil chipmunks?

The Cabin in the Woods (2012) - This horror movie written and produced by Joss Whedon and director Drew Goddard is a clever as well as a meta-commentary on horror movies and their tropes. The film is an attempt to subvert movie reviews expectations and gives laughs and thrills. Its cast members particularly Fran Kranz and Kristen Connolly, are all top-quality.
An extremely experimental horror experience, Skinamarink is divisive, to say the least. Officially released in 2023, this looks at most movies described as a "slow burn" and tells them (blog post) "hold my molasses."
We follow a handful of characters as supernatural events unfold, and... well, that's the whole plot right there. But it's really about the journey, not the destination. Or the signposts.
